BETTING ON TENNIS

Tennis is undoubtedly one of the sports with the most fans globally today, and also one of the most attractive individual sports for betting.

Players like Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic or recently the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, are icons of the sport worldwide and have boosted the popularity of tennis to heights never before reached.

It can be said that tennis is the most popular individual sport, and it also allows the fan to follow and bet on specific players instead of on a team as a whole, as is the case with basketball or football.

In recent years, professional tennis has brought some very exciting developments to the game, such as the electronic review technology known as hawk-eye, which has only increased the sport's popularity among fans.

  • Tournaments and tennis matches

Most sports fans will have heard of the Big Four of the tennis world that are played each year, which is known as the Grand Slam and is made up of:

    - Australian Open: it is played in Melbourne in January, on a hard surface.

    - Roland Garros: it is played in Paris between May and June, on clay.

    - Wimbledon: it is played in London between June and July, on grass.

    - US Open: it is played in New York between August and September, on hard surface.

Any good tennis fan would not miss these tournaments under any circumstances, since the best players in both the male and female categories meet annually.

The next level of the men's professional circuit - called the ATP circuit - is made up of the 9 Masters 1000, followed by the ATP 500 (13), and after them come the 39 ATP 250 tournaments.

For its part, in the women's category - WTA circuit - the second step is made up of the 21 WTA Premier tournaments, and after them the 32 WTA International.

In both circuits there are also tournaments that close the tennis course and bring together the best of the year: ATP Finals and WTA Finals. Likewise, both in the male and female categories, the second division of the professional circuits are the Challenger Tours, and they feed on top-level players.

Although as the level of the tournament drops, more players above the top-100 will take part, it is still possible to find quality tennis and valuable odds in second-tier tournaments, and even follow matches via live streaming at through some betting websites.

  • Previous work before betting

In a way, betting on tennis can be easier than betting on team sports. Although there are always several factors to consider, they are fewer than those that must be taken into account when placing bets on football, where there can be suspensions, refereeing errors, expulsions, injuries to key players, which make betting more complex.

Here are some things to keep in mind before placing a tennis bet:

    - Is the match played on clay, grass or hard court?

    - What is the favorite surface of each player?

    - When two players face each other, how is the previous face-to-face between them? And on the specific surface on which they are going to play?

    - Are any of the players left-handed?

    - What are the weather conditions on match day?

    - Have any of the contenders just come out of an injury or come to the match with any physical discomfort?

All these factors come into play because in tennis, unlike team sports, the player cannot rely on his team or his teammates to carry out a match. But environmental factors, and especially the surface on which it is played, can have a great impact on a tennis match or competition. Keeping this in mind, in the next section we explain different bets that you can make in tennis.

  • Markets to bet on tennis

    Match winner betting

This is the most common and easiest type of bet. It is nothing more than betting on a player, or pair of doubles, as the winner of a specific match.

    Ultimate Winner Betting

This market refers to who will be the final winner of a tennis tournament. Here you should study the strengths and weaknesses of the players on one surface or another before placing your bet.

    Correct Score Betting

Market easy to understand, but requires prior analysis on your part. Here you bet that a player will win a match with a certain set difference.

    Sets handicap bets

On a bet that includes a sets handicap, you will need to add/subtract the handicap from the final result.

    Game handicap betting

In this market, a games handicap is added to the match, either referring to a set or to the entire match. Therefore, to the result of the match in number of games you will have to add/subtract that handicap of X number of games.

    Bets over/under X number of sets/games

In this type of tennis markets, instead of betting on a specific player to win or lose, you bet on the total number of games or sets that will be played in the match in question.
